Gold for FLOCKHILL Homestead at Best Design Awards
We congratulate Warren and Mahoney Architects and Flock Hill Holdings Limited for achieving a Gold Award in the residential category for FLOCKHILL Homestead. Inovo led this project as Project Managers, as well as planning, surveying, and resource consent services.
Nestled cleverly into the landscape in the Arthur’s Pass region, with an expansive view out to Lake Pearson, the secluded Homestead offers luxury guest accommodation and forms the heart of the 36,000-acre high-country station. The name is derived from the limestone formations which jut into the striking and imposing surroundings.
At first glance, the building appears utilitarian and simple, as a single linear strip formed of cast concrete, limestone flooring and restrained timber framing, however it is beautiful in its simplicity, feeling solid and embedded firmly in the landscape without a sense of heaviness or grandiosity. There is clever use of light, and views are maximised from all possible angles. The result is a building that feels warm and safe, with while connected to the exterior and surrounds.
