Middlemore Hospital Ward Conversion and Refurbishment
Project Management
With over 9,000 New Zealanders experiencing a stroke every year, and the leading cause of serious adult disability in New Zealand, it was timely for Inovo to provide project management, contractual and governance support to Te Whatu Ora for the conversion of ward 35E at Middlemore Hospital to a dedicated stroke unit.
The conversion and fitout of the ward, with a 23-bed capacity, included reconfiguration of rooms, bathrooms, staff and whanau areas. New fire cells were developed and services reconfigured. New advanced hoist systems were installed, giving staff and patients improved flexibility in movement, and lighting and flooring was replaced.
The Inovo team working closely with the Te Whatu Ora, the consultant team and the contractor. Design work commenced in early 2023, and once construction was underway, the work was completed in May 2024.
The project result, delivered on time and within budget, is a functional, bright facility with fantastic views over Manukau. Client leadership and staff are thrilled with the result and believe it will be a positive environment for patients and staff alike.
