Project Planning
This investment at the North Shore Hospital campus is an Elective Capacity and Inpatient Beds (ECIB) facility, delivering surgery, patient care and support services critical to meet the increased demand for local healthcare services in the northern region. The inpatients facility delivers at least 150 extra hospital beds, eight additional general operating theatres and four endoscopy procedure rooms.
Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora (at the time Waitematā District Health Board or WDHB) initially engaged Inovo to provide a comprehensive development programme with input from WDHB and key consultants to understand the constraints and risks around the project; develop procurement strategies and construction methodologies to minimise impact on North Shore Hospital; test assumptions, and brief the future construction tenderers on preferred sequence, methodologies and key milestones. This included full preparation of critical path programmes (including Master, Design and Documentation, Construction, FF&E, Commissioning and Decanting & Occupation), review and updating against progress, advice on the availability and appropriateness of building systems and construction techniques, contractor procurement options, review of the contractor’s programme, reporting and risk analysis.
Inovo was subsequently engaged as Internal Health New Zealand Project Managers & Associate Project Director for the project. This involves coordination between the construction team, consultants, and external project managers. Critical to success is liaison with the clinical team and the wider hospital for services connection on the campus, minimising disruptions and commissioning and integration. Inovo is also engaged to oversee the Fittings, Fixtures and Equipment (FF & E) procurement, purchasing and delivery to meet the needs of the budget and the programme.
The project was completed mid-2024, on time and on budget. It is the largest development at North Shore Hospital in 50 years.
