Te Pae - Christchurch Convention Centre
Project Planning
Surveying
Te Pae was conceived as world-class convention and exhibition centre, constructed after the existing Convention Centre suffered irreparable damage in the February 2011 earthquakes.
Te Pae (a gathering space in te reo Māori) sits in the heart of Christchurch central city and features flexible spaces including 24 meeting rooms, 1,400 seat auditorium, 2800m2 exhibition space, 1,800 seat dedicated dining space and offices.
Inovo worked alongside crown-owned Ōtākaro as part of the Christchurch Central Recovery Plan. Inovo’s role as project planners involved early detailed planning of the consultant team deliverables, then through to main contractor engagement. Inovo then switched to monitoring construction on site.
A separate team at Inovo were subsequently engaged by the contractor to undertake comprehensive planning and monitoring at site level. This was an extremely complicated building to plan construction tasks for given that it contained multiple compound curved ceilings and walls and their intricate sub-structures, but the resulting building resides elegantly in the city centre as an architectural and social landmark.
